Secret Origin of the name “Gundam”

Have you ever wondered where the name “Gundam” came from? Well, according to Bandai South Asia, the original name for those military robots were “Gundom,” a portmanteau of the words “Gun” and “Freedom.” However, series creator Yoshiyuki Tomino changed the name to “Gundam” to evoke the idea of the robots being used like a dam to hold back enemies.
